Introducing proactive IP development for seed-stage and pre-seed companies
Early-stage companies often postpone intellectual property work because it's unclear what matters, what can wait, and how to move forward. However, VCs focusing on seed and pre-seed investments can help companies leverage their assets by partnering with All Turtles.
Our IP development program gives VCs a snapshot view of the patent and trademark status for their seed portfolio. When a company's IP is underdeveloped, the VC can connect the founder directly to All Turtles for a detailed assessment of intellectual property assets and opportunities.
Founders get clarity and a roadmap to follow, while VCs ensure their investments are set up to thrive.

BUILDING A STRONGER FOUNDATION
You know that the long-term prospects for a startup often depend on making the right moves at the start. But more than half of seed companies lack patents or trademarks. Failing to leverage these assets results in weaker differentiation, softer stories for future rounds, and less leverage at exit. Companies that build solid IP portfolios early tend to see big benefits that compound over time.
10.2x
Companies that act early to file both patents and trademarks are 10x more likely to secure additional funding.
+76%
Using a patent as collateral has been linked to approximately 76% more VC funding over a three-year period.
+80%
A startup’s first granted patent is associated with 80% higher cumulative sales over five years versus peers without patents.
Our Record of Success
All Turtles' IP development team has built patent and trademark portfolios for over 14 years, working with standout tech companies like Sunflower Labs, Octane AI, Carrot Fertility, Airtime, Replika, Evernote, and many more.
The combined IP portfolio we've helped create includes over 110 issued patents and over 60 registered trademarks. And our dedication to technical quality gives us a patent issue rate 10% higher than the USPTO average.
Our IP team is supported by long-running partnerships with the law firms Westborough IP Group, LLC (for patents) and Trust Tree Legal, P.C. (for trademarks).
HOW IT WORKS
Every startup can benefit from early, thoughtful IP development. And we make it easy with carefully considered recommendations tailored to each company’s technology, brand exposure, and business plan.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do we engage with you? What’s the process?+−
All Turtles’ proactive IP program partners with seed and pre-seed stage venture capital funds, which then refer portfolio companies to us.
A typical project begins with the materials founders already have. We review, ask questions, and then come back with specific suggestions such as: “Open a search and filing project for these two trademarks,” “File a patent application aimed at this system architecture,” or “Prepare two patent applications timed to your planned alpha release.” The goal is to give the team a clear map of what is worth doing and when.
If the company wishes to follow our recommendation, they can either contract All Turtles to handle drafting, filing, and prosecution, or they can take the assessment to third-party IP counsel.
Will the founders’ proprietary information be safe?+−
Each participating company signs its own Service Agreement with All Turtles, which includes confidentiality and non-disclosure provisions. Only after that do we look at non-public materials.
How much does it cost?+−
The program has two options.
Under the paid assessment option, the company requesting the assessment pays a fixed fee of $3,000. If extra work is needed and agreed to, additional hours are billed at $250/hr. The company may use our recommendations with any IP counsel it chooses to engage, or may decide to continue with All Turtles for follow-on IP work.
Under the free assessment option, All Turtles waives the assessment fee. In return, the company commits to using All Turtles for follow-on IP development arising from the assessment, on commercially reasonable and competitive terms.
The workflow and the quality of the evaluation are the same in both options.
How much company time and resources will this tie up?+−
We keep the burden on company founders as light as possible. A good starting point is a slide deck with some technical depth, along with additional notes to provide context. In the assessment phase, we usually need a single point of contact on the company side and one or two working sessions to clarify details.
